Narrative Photo Essay: Jersey City

  1. I'm very excited about this project and intend to continue it beyond the requirements of the class. I started photographing people in my neighborhood because I really wanted to celebrate them. When it came time to manipulate the pictures, I wanted to find a way to emphasize grittiness and grace at the same time.

One of the ways Jersey City endeavors to add color to the often achromatic landscape is by painting enormous murals outside of the schools and public buildings. They generally to celebrate diversity and youth. I stylized these photographs with that idea in mind. Each photograph is hypervibrant, with filmgrain, posteredge, and brick texture filters.
